Planned Metro to go to tender shortly with four consortia expressing interest, according to the RPA. T5 Chaos Could Cost £150m

The chaos that accompanied the opening of much hyped Terminal 5 at London's Heathrow, had cost British Airways a hefty £16m, to date. Analysts predict the problems will persist into summer and total £150m.

The £250 million redevelopment of Blackfriars station in London is said to be carried out by a Laing O'Rourke/Costain joint venture, beating off stiff competition from rivals Balfour Beatty, Carillion and Sir Robert McAlpine.

Phase 1 of dehumidification process to ward off corrosion is underway on the Severn Bridge. The £20m project carried out by Laing O'Rourke, involved the wrapping of the main cables in a polymer-based material.

13 New Road Projects to Roll Out

There is a huge stream of projects to be rolled out this year, including the final four outstanding projects that will complete the Major Inter-Urban (MIUs), including the N7 Castletown to Nenagh, (N9) Kilcullen to Carlow as well as the continuation of the long awaited Western Rail Corridor.

Major projects completed in 2007 included the completion of 11 national road projects; 86% of the five Major Inter-Urban routes (MIUs) was either open to traffic or at construction and also the Dublin Docklands railway station opened.

Expenditure for Transport 21’s 2008 is to reach almost €3bn with €2b to be allocated to the national road network.

Landsdowne Rd Goes Over Budget

The Lansdowne Road stadium, which has SISK as the main contractor, is to exceed its €365m budget, due to a decision to increase the facilities at the 50,000 seater stadium. The new facilities to be added to the development include an underground car park, providing for 200 cars and improved catering facilities, has changed from the original design.
