Aberdeen Energy Centre

RMJM Architects has unveiled images of its £35m energy centre project, to be located along Aberdeen’s seafront, and will feature laboratories, office accommodation, and conference space.

The spectacular 7,000sq m timber-shingle clad building, although still at pre-planning stage, when completed will be flagship building for the Scottish city and for sustainability.

It will house the local City Council and also the Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group and will be used for research and education of the public on energy issues.

Photovoltaic panels and a large wind turbine through the building’s envelope will supply the power to the structure.

Morag McCorkindale, chief operating officer of the Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group, said:

“Aberdeen is a capital for over 900 energy companies and we want to build a centre that expresses our industry and serves as a science centre for the public.

“We want to celebrate the city’s oil and gas heritage and look to the future — that’s why we want it to be a showcase for renewable technologies too.
“This is a concept design by RMJM who we’ve worked with closely on the design — we’re trying to get across that we want a very special building.”
