Green Housing Scheme Set for Isle of Wight
26th Mar 2008

Consultants White Young Green (WYG), are to develop a high quality sustainable development on 23 ha of land on the Isle of Wight, in association with Miller Homes and the local Council.

The new development , which will encompass around 1,000 new homes, will be integrated into the existing community on the edge of the Isle of Wight’s county town of Newport.

Work will start on site in April 2009 within the 11 year build programme, finishing in 2020. The Environmental Impact Assessment and planning application is to be submitted in June of this year.

Speaking about the project, Martin Hawthorne, Director for WYG, commentented: “WYG’s role in the bid for this unique project meant that Miller Homes was equipped with the best planning and environmental solutions needed to make the scheme successful, including maximising the green credentials by delivering a low carbon footprint and integrating the urban and green corridors to allow wildlife to florish within the development.

The project is important to revitalising this area of the Isle of Wight and one step further to giving the community and the Island a sustainable future, a core principle that underpins all WYG activity”.
