This project, dubbed the ‘Swoosh’, was the winning design created by AA student Valeria Garcia, which is to be built as the AA summer pavilion at London’s Bedford Square.

The impressive interlocking timber structure was chosen as the winner among 12 entrants, to create the design for the pavillion.

The jury, chaired by tutor Charles Walker, included Larry Malcic, head of design at HOK, and Alex de Rijke of dRMM. De Rijke described the scheme as a “three-dimensional poem”.

Walker said: “It was a close competition, but this one was chosen for its architectural merits, and because it was the most beautiful and displayed an innovative use of timber.”

The project is a collaboration with Arup, Finnforest, HOK.
