Housebuilder Abbey has reported improving sales in Ireland as confidence returns to the market. In a statement issued ahead of Abbey’s AGM today, Chairman Charles H Gallagher said overall trading in the first few months of the year has been “steady” and that, in particular, excess inventory is “gradually being cleared”. "In Ireland sales have been improving of late as some confidence returns to the market. In some locations we may soon sell out and we are keen to find further outlets particularly in the Dublin area," he said. Mr Gallagher said that in southern England "good levels of business" had been achieved over recent weeks, adding the group was on course for a satisfactory outcome this year on current trends. In July, the group reported a loss of €54.4m for the financial year ending 30 April 2009, compared with a profit of €16.8m in the previous year. |
