€800m Ballymun regeneration gets go-ahead

Treasury Holdings said today it has secured full planning permission for the €800 million regeneration of Ballymun Town Centre in north Dublin.

The Spring Cross scheme is the largest town-centre project that has ever been approved by the Irish planning authorities.

Some 2,000 construction jobs are to be created during the scheme, with work due to begin next year.

It includes 60,000 square metres of retail space and 35,000 square metres of offices.

The scheme also includes 360 apartments, as well as a cinema, a public library and restaurants.

Work is due to begin next year and will take an estimated three years to complete.

The project will also benefit from direct access to the confirmed Metro North route that will link the airport with Dublin city centre.

“We have secured planning permission for a sustainable town centre scheme which, when complete, will be one of the largest urban regeneration projects in Europe," said Niall Kavanagh, Director of Development responsible for the Spring Cross project at Treasury Holdings.

"Spring Cross is set to become the capital of north Dublin providing extensive, top-quality retail, office and leisure facilities. Together with the opening of Ikea, we see the future of Ballymun as a destination for shoppers, not only from the Dublin region, but from all over Ireland – which will also benefit the local community,” he added.

Treasury Holdings has also been responsible for landmark developments including the largest urban regeneration in Ireland at Spencer Dock, and the country’s first Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Powerscourt, Co.Wicklow.
