SPOTLIGHT ON A MAJOR PROJECT:

Dublin Airport (<€800 million, 2010-2014)

At the time the CMG Business Information Report went to print, the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) was finalising its 2010-2014 capital programme, which will allocate the funds relating to the second phase of the Transforming Dublin Airport Programme.

Dublin Airport’s capital programme is funded through a combination of passenger charges and commercial revenue and as such receives no direct state funding.

According to a spokesperson, the level of investment between 2010 and 2015 will be reduced from its original forecast of €800 million to take account of lower forecasted passenger numbers.

The DAA will instead insert certain trigger mechanisms into its next capital programme to allow it to bring forward certain projects should passenger traffic recover more quickly than forecasted.

The new parallel runway will be deferred and will be one of the so-called trigger projects within the 2010 to 2014 period.

The Pier B extension, which was originally due to be completed in 2010/2011, will not happen between the 2010 to 2014 period.

The 11-storey Design & Build hotel and car park (€130 million, April 2010) contract awarded to McAleer & Rushe was seeking planning at the time this report went to print .
